Soil and Irrigation Water Management: Farmer’s Practice, Insight, and Major Constraints in Upper Blue Nile Basin, Ethiopia

This study assessed farmers’ soil and irrigation water management practices, perceptions, major constraints at Koga, a large-scale scheme in Ethiopia. Key informant interviews, structured semi-structured questionnaires, focus group discussions, field visits were used for data collection. Soil samples collected the assessment of properties comparison with respondents’ perception soil-related constraints. A total 385 respondents involved questionnaire. All had good acidity its strategies. Respondents’ was line mean pH, texture, infiltration rate, exchangeable acidity, organic carbon obtained from lab analysis tests. unwise use water, scarcity, lack market linkages hampered performance Koga scheme. Yet, low awareness management. Farmers never scheduling, but apply same amount regardless crop type. As result, yield efficiency reported.
